1. Introduction
Welcome to PetID ("we", "our", or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the PetID mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
- Photos you submit for identification. When you take or upload a photo of an animal, the image is sent to our server for AI-powered analysis. We do not store your photos after analysis is complete.
- Usage data. We may collect anonymous usage statistics (e.g., number of scans performed, features used) to improve the App. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.
- Device ID and scan balance. On first launch our server creates a random ID for your device. It is not your name, email, phone number or advertising ID. The App keeps it in your device's secure storage (iOS Keychain). Our server stores this ID together with your number of free and paid scans left, how many scans you have used, and a record of each change (free scans on first launch, a scan earned by watching an ad, a scan pack bought or refunded).
- Purchase information. If you buy a scan pack, the payment is processed by Apple. We receive the store transaction ID and the product bought, linked to your random device ID, so we can add your scans. We do not receive or store your payment details.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To identify animals in photos you submit using AI vision technology.
- To provide first aid and safety information for dangerous animals.
- To process and verify in-app purchases.
- To keep track of how many scans you have left and to add scans you earn or buy.
- To improve the accuracy and performance of our identification service.
4. Camera and Photo Library Access
The App requests access to your device's camera and photo library solely to let you capture or select animal photos for identification. We do not access your camera or photos without your explicit action, and we do not transmit any photos except the one you intentionally submit for identification.
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- OpenAI (GPT-4o Vision): processes submitted images for animal identification. Images are transmitted securely and subject to OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
- Apple In-App Purchases: handles payment for scan packs, subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat: verifies scan pack purchases with Apple and tells our server which device ID to credit. It receives your random device ID and purchase details, subject to RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- Google AdMob: shows banner and rewarded ads. If you allow tracking when the App asks, AdMob may use your device's advertising ID to show more relevant ads. When you finish a rewarded ad for a scan, Google tells our server, together with your random device ID, so we can add the scan. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
6. Data Retention
Photos submitted for identification are processed in real time and are not stored on our servers after analysis. Animal scan results you choose to save are stored locally on your device only and are not transmitted to or stored on our servers. Your random device ID, scan balance and its history are kept on our server while you use the App, so your scans are not lost. Scans you buy stay on the device they were bought on and cannot be moved to another device.
7. Children's Privacy
PetID is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
8. Data Security
All communication between the App and our servers uses HTTPS encryption. We take reasonable precautions to protect your data, but no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
9. Your Rights
We do not store your name, email or other information that identifies you. We only store the random device ID and scan balance described above. If you want them deleted, contact us at the address below. Note that deleting them also removes any scans you have left.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
